Unlike most Korean artists, Hyunwoo Roh chose to study art in Russia. While contemporary art often emphasises the artist's ideas and unique expression through abstract techniques, novel materials, and brushstrokes, Noh believed that the abstract art trend in contemporary work felt like ill-fitting clothing.

While studying in Russia, a country deeply rooted in Realism, Roh developed techniques to express his emotions, thoughts, and ideals through hyper-realistic art. The scenes in his paintings that seem to exist yet feel unreal are actually real locations. Roh portrays specific dates, times, and places that made a significant impression on him with great detail. The titles of his artworks are exactly those dates, times, and locations. His goal is to evoke the same emotional response in viewers by faithfully capturing the scenes that stirred deep feelings in him.
